1.Physical and mechanical properties

Mica with two-dimensional sheet structure plays the role of plane reinforcement in plastics, which improves the bending elastic modulus and tensile strength of the products. The physical and mechanical properties of mica-reinforced plastics are between those of glass fiber reinforced and mineral filler reinforced. Compared to glass fiber reinforced plastics, mica reinforced plastics have the advantage of high modulus and low warpage.



The uniform orientation of mica in the plastic ensures anisotropy, prevents warpage and deformation, and also gives the product excellent dimensional stability. Mica is a mineral filler, which has the most obvious effect on the shrinkage of PP and PA modified materials, and can greatly reduce the molding shrinkage of the products.

2. Heat resistance

Mica Powder has good thermal stability. It can prevent the generation of volatiles in the process of thermal decomposition of plastics and improve the thermal stability of the material while keeping heat.

3.Damping performance

The addition of mica powder contributes greatly to the improvement of the damping performance of the product. Under the combined effect of volume effect and friction effect of flake filler, the energy loss of the material is large, and the damping value is also large.

4. UV shielding performance

Mica is a natural mineral filler with excellent UV shielding performance and mechanical enhancement effect. The UV shielding effect in some application systems can completely replace organic UV absorbers, greatly reducing manufacturing costs.

5. Electrical properties

Mica has extremely high electrical resistance and is a high performance insulating material. Mica filler is an ideal choice in the field of electrical communication for low-voltage appliances. If you need to make highly insulated plastic products, you can consider adding functional filler wet mica powder, but mica with high iron content has low insulating properties and should be avoided.

6. Barrier performance

During plastic processing, by rolling and stretching the material, the mica flakes can form a parallel orientation arrangement in the plastic. The orientation is parallel to the surface of the plastic product and perpendicular to the direction of penetration and escape of gases and liquids. Layers of barriers are formed in this material, making it extremely difficult for gases and liquids to penetrate. As gases and liquids penetrate the plastic product, they must constantly work their way around and over the mica sheet. The penetration path is extremely tortuous. As a result, mica-filled plastics have excellent gas and liquid barrier properties. However, in order to obtain excellent barrier effects, the diameter-to-thickness ratio of the flake filler must be at least 50 times, preferably 70 times or more. Wet mica powders with diameter-to-thickness ratios of up to 80-120 times can be used for plastic materials requiring high barrier properties.
